Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 17C 5G in India, bringing a large display, 5G connectivity and a 6,000mAh battery to the budget smartphone segment.
The phone focuses on everyday features such as long battery life, smooth scrolling and expandable storage, although Xiaomi has made some compromises in display resolution and camera hardware to keep the price competitive.
6.9-Inch 120Hz Display
The Redmi 17C 5G features a 6.9-inch LCD display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate.
Its 1600 × 720 HD+ resolution isn’t the sharpest in this price range, but the higher refresh rate should make scrolling, browsing and everyday navigation feel smoother.
The display also supports DC dimming and TÜV Rheinland-certified eye-comfort and blue-light reduction features.
Dimensity 6300 and Expandable Storage
The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, a 6nm processor designed for everyday performance and 5G connectivity.
It comes with 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Users can also expand storage with a microSD card of up to 1TB.
6,000mAh Battery With 33W Charging
Battery life is one of the phone’s biggest highlights.
The Redmi 17C 5G packs a 6,000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. Xiaomi also includes the 33W charger in the box.
The phone supports 10W reverse wired charging, allowing it to provide power to compatible accessories.
Xiaomi says the battery can retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,000 charging cycles.
Basic Camera Setup
The Redmi 17C 5G has a 50MP f/1.8 main camera supported by a secondary auxiliary sensor.
For selfies and video calls, there is an 8MP front camera. Both cameras support video recording at up to 1080p at 30fps.
The camera system is aimed at everyday photography rather than advanced mobile photography.
HyperOS 3 and Google AI Features
The phone runs HyperOS 3 and includes Google AI features such as Gemini Live and Circle to Search, along with image-generation tools.
These features add useful AI capabilities to a relatively affordable smartphone.
Practical Features
The Redmi 17C 5G measures 7.99mm thick and weighs around 211g.
It also includes:
IP64 dust and splash resistance
Side-mounted fingerprint scanner
3.5mm headphone jack
Wet Touch technology for improved touchscreen response when hands or the display are slightly wet
Price and Availability
The Redmi 17C 5G will go on sale in India from 7 October through Xiaomi’s official website, Amazon India and offline retail stores.
It will be available in Dark Night, Purple Dawn and Coffee Brew colour options.
India Pricing
4GB + 128GB: ₹20,999
6GB + 128GB: ₹22,999
Final Thoughts
The Redmi 17C 5G focuses on practical features rather than premium specifications. Its 6,000mAh battery, 120Hz display, 5G connectivity and expandable storage make it suitable for users who want a phone for everyday entertainment and communication.
The HD+ display and basic camera setup are noticeable compromises, but they help Xiaomi keep the phone within a more accessible price range.
With sales starting on 7 October in India, the Redmi 17C 5G enters a competitive budget 5G smartphone market.
